Welcome to the jungle
Meaning of
Representation
· The description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular
way.
The short clip of the clip ‘Welcome
to the jungle’ first starts of in an urban
city at night time. This straight
away has an effect on the audience because night time in urban cities has
connotations for when dangerous people come out. Also it is time known for
crime related events takes place. On the dark buildings there are small
glimpses of light, which show and possibly show signs of hope over the dark
night. We then progress to see a blacked out sports car. This car is drifting
in the road in circles. The car as well as the buildings has small glimpses of
colourful bright lights on it to, which to the audience will raise suspicion
but will lower tension. The car is drifting in the road but strangely we cannot
hear the tyres of the car skidding against the road. Only the soft, peaceful
music playing in the background.
After when we pass the car scene we
progress into a cloud of smoke. Beyond the smoke we are introduced into small
black group of, which to be presented as gang members. These men are presented
as straight faced, serious angry people. We can see this by their facial
expressions. We get the feeling that they are gang members because they are
standing in a coordinated formation with what seems to be a leader in the
front. The leader holding to dogs portrayed as being violent, aggressive
animals with gold chains as leashes. These gold leashes matching the big
massive chains on the necks of these gang members, which show more of a
connection between all the people.
As the camera passes through the gang
members we then see a small group of attractive women dancing. These women are
wearing short exposing clothing in the colour red. The colour red has
connotations of love, blood but mainly on women the feeling of seduction and
going with the body positions of these women we see that these women are being
sexually represented to the audience. Mainly to appeal to the male gender
watching this short film.
Moving forward in this video we now
are introduced to paparazzi. Along with these flash photographers we see a limo
with what appears to look like a wealthy man in a suit waving and demanding the
person behind the camera to get in the limo. When we get closer to the limo we
get a view of inside and we see the middle aged gentleman smiling with
excitement beside many young eastern European women with serious almost
distraught faces. This connotes that the women are not enjoying themselves as
well as the man is. Possibly they are there against their will or because they
are with a man like that to take advantage of his money.
Moving through the video we then see
what is portrayed as madness on the streets. We see a horse with a policeman on
it potentially meaning that there is a possible riot. Helicopters showing that
the situation is serious and now the authorities are looking for someone. Then
we see a synchronised performed by a group of dancers all with masks on their
faces. Half black and half white mask showing that there is no order in
society.
Once the madness in the streets has
passed we now see smoky streets with loads and loads of money dropping out the
sky. Almost as if it was raining money.
As the camera moves down the street we are struck by a many different
people all posing as different types of class, gender and work ethic. We see
models, builders, rich white men and women and wrestlers. We see wealthy men
throwing away money as if it doesn’t mean anything to them signifying that he
is very rich and has a lot already. In an instant we now see the person behind
the eyes of the camera. A pretty, innocent young white female, whose facial
expressions signify that she in amazed and the scenes she’s seen has struck her
with mixed emotions. Her face is straight till she sees what appears to be her
date/partner. A well-presented young male in a suit with a chain signifying
that he looks after himself and that he well set young male.
was mostly descriptive, could of used more opinions and evaluations.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you explained the different scenes in the video. Maybe a few screenshots could've been used as examples to show what scenes you're talking about.
