Five held in £50m cocaine seizure at Farnborough Airport
Cocaine with an estimated street value of more than £50m has been seized from a private jet in Hampshire. Border Force officers found half a tonne (500kg) of the drug in suitcases after a flight from Bogota, Colombia, to Farnborough Airport on Monday.Five men - two British, two Spanish and an Italian - were arrested on suspicion of importing Class A drugs. The National Crime Agency (NCA) said the seizure was one of the largest flown into the UK "for many years".
I have searched up the rate at which drug smuggling contain Class A Cocaine is transported around the world. Increase over the period 2002-2005, global cocaine seizure totals have recently followed a stable trend, amounting to 712 tons in 2007 and 711 tons in 2008. This continued to be concentrated in the Americas and Europe. Seizures in South America accounted for 59 per cent of the global total for 2008, compared with 45 per cent in 2007. It is not likely for drug trafficking to be taken place in the UK but according to recent events we can see that there has been a increase world wide.
This is article is upsetting because we see an inside of how significant drug trafficking is. What we do not realize that these same drugs are the drugs that flood our streets and neighborhoods and build up more crime within our communities. As a young person speaking for young generation I personally want to put a end to this crime as it has many knock on effects on other people that mean a lot to other people.
well written, how ever include more context and a bit more comparisons.
